Intensive green roofs are planted in the same way as normal gardens, thus with a lawn, borders, fixed plants and trees. This, of course, places special demands on the structure of the vegetation and the drainage layer. Because of the high weight (from 300 kg/m2) and a build-up height of at least 20 cm, Nophadrain has developed special drainage systems that can withstand those extreme loads. Intensive green roofs are often combined with pedestrian or even trafficable paving, on the roof of underground car parks for example.

Attributes of intensive green roofs are:

  • Just like a normal garden, the vegetation needs regular maintenance
  • The system offers great freedom of choice in terms of plants and layout
  • An intensive green roof can be installed from 210 mm
  • The permanent loading is high: from 280 kg/m2 including plants
  • The costs of installation and maintenance are relatively high
  • Simple to combine with pedestrian and trafficable paving
  • This type of roof vegetation, however, is only possible if it was accounted for when designing the roof construction.

The Nophadrain Intensive Green system is built up as follows:

  • Intensive planting/paving
  • ND DGS-I roof vegetation substrate/foundation layer
  • ND WSM-50 water reservoir panels
  • Nophadrain 4+1/5+1 drainage composite
  • WSB-80 root-resistant membrane
  • Waterproofing membrane
  • Roof construction
